This is finally good news if you're planning a trip or holiday for this year.

The desire for "revenge travel," which has driven up rates for the past two years, is starting to decline.

Your 2024 vacation might therefore be less expensive than you had anticipated, particularly if you select some less well-traveled locations.

According to Hopper's consumer travel expert Lindsay Schwimer, "If you are planning a trip, you can find some really great deals right now."

She says that even for dream vacation spots like Europe, airfares are a little less expensive this year.

"For instance," she continues, "Dublin, Ireland, you can go for under $500 round trip."

She claims that avoiding the most visited places, such as London and Paris, is crucial.

If you avoid the busiest travel weeks in the summer, "you can get a round-trip ticket to Brussels, Venice, Prague, or Nice for less than $700," she says.

However, Schwimer suggests Mexico or the Caribbean if you're looking for someplace closer and less expensive; round-trip tickets may be found for under $300.

Schwimer remarked, "It's not that far away and you can still get that same feeling of really being away."

Although she acknowledges that remaining in the US won't really save you much money because domestic airfare is still expensive, she does point out that there are some inexpensive flights to Florida and Montana that cost about $250.

Once more, the idea is to focus on less popular airports with a large number of discount airlines, such as Punta Gorda or Ft Lauderdale in Florida instead of Naples or Miami.

When to book

For domestic travel, Schwimer says “Start monitoring prices about three to four months in advance of your trip.”

You can do that using apps like Hopper or Google Flights.

Then, she says, “You'll want to book at least one or two months in advance."

For international travel, Schwimer says you should start looking 5 to 7 months in advance, booking your flight 3 to 4 months out.

Veteran travelers share their tips

Meantime, we found some veteran travelers with some great tips too,

Kim Filkin's biggest secret: Avoid traveling during surge periods, like the last week of March or first week in April.

"We are older so we probably can avoid it, but a lot of people want to go on spring break," she said.

Everybody has a little trick for getting great prices on vacation.

Mikaela Daniel travels on off-peak days, she promises.

"If you like are able to compromise the date you are originally going, sometimes the tickets are cheaper," she stated.

In this manner, your money is not wasted.
