Canada Reveals New Guidelines Regarding Student Visas in 2024

In an attempt to improve the integrity of its system, Canada implemented new immigration laws and a number of significant changes to its international student program in 2024.

These actions are meant to uphold the fairness of the application procedure, safeguard students' rights, and make it easier for educational pathways to be in line with the evolving demands of the job market. Here is a detailed examination of the most significant developments that are currently occurring.

Canada Has Announced New Student Visa Regulations

The new requirements for student visas include the verification of letters of acceptance (LOA) online, a two-tiered study permit system for respectable educational institutions, and the potential of adjustments to work hour restrictions and eligibility for the Personal Graduate Work Program (PGWP).

Here's a detailed examination of the changes that are now occurring:

The establishment of an online platform to enable Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) to validate Letters of Acceptance (LOAs) submitted by international applicants in support of their student visa applications is one of the newly announced immigration regulations.
Within ten days, DLIs are required to confirm letters of offering (LOAs); failure to do so or confirmation of false LOAs would result in the cancelation of visa applications and the refunding of fees.

The fact that foreign students studying in Canada in the past have submitted authorization letters from Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) without the use of a centralized verification mechanism is crucial to bring up at this point. This made it possible for fraudulent activities to occur.

This keeps students from being exploited, as happened to the 700 Indian students who received fake admission letters the previous year.

Canada has made the study permit application form (IMM1294) available in an updated format as of December 1, 2023.

The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) makes it clear that applications filed using the obsolete form after this date will not be approved, underscoring the importance of compliance.

The IRCC has also recommended the establishment of a framework called the "Trusted Institutions Framework." This framework aims to expedite the process of obtaining study permits for accredited educational institutions by establishing a two-tiered structure.

Although the details are still lacking, it is anticipated that the deployment will happen in the fall of 2024.

In 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) plans to make more modifications to Canada's international student program.

In 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) plans to make more modifications to Canada's international student program.

Some of the changes that have been made include raising the cost-of-living requirement, reviewing the 20-hour work cap for international students, ending the helpful provision that permitted students to apply time spent abroad toward their Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), and making other changes to the PGWP program.

            Canada Declares New Regulations

It is anticipated that the requirements for student visas would become increasingly demanding in terms of living standards.

1  .The thirty-hour work week cap for international students should be reevaluated.

2 .It is probable that the time spent abroad deduction from PGWP will no longer be allowed.

     3. There will be several changes made to the PGWP program soon.

The objective of the IRCC is to achieve equilibrium between the requirements of Canada's labor market and demography, as well as the admission of foreign students and the issuance of PGWPs. This is a significant change in Canadian policy that will impact the approximately one million overseas students who are pursuing their academic dreams.

These developments will present opportunities as well as challenges for international students interested in studying in Canada. It's critical to stay informed, check out newly updated information, and adapt your application strategies when navigating this dynamic world.

If you plan and prepare well, you can still pursue your educational goals in Canada and have a fulfilling experience.
